How the Tool Works
The assessment is organized into five stages of maturity, each representing a level of AI governance sophistication:
Initial / Unaware – AI adoption is informal and lacks safeguards.
Reactive / Foundational – Basic awareness and initial controls.
Defined / Risk-Aware – Formal governance structures begin to take shape.
Integrated / Proactive – Governance practices are embedded into business processes.
Resilient / Optimized – Advanced, future-proof, and self-improving AI governance.
Within each stage, you’ll find a checklist of tasks that exemplify the practices expected at that level. As you complete each task in your real-world governance program, you can check it off in the app to record your progress.
Checking Off Tasks
When you begin performing a specific practice — such as maintaining an AI inventory, conducting risk assessments, or implementing oversight mechanisms — return to the AI Maturity page and mark the corresponding task as complete.
You can also:
Add notes to each item to record context, decisions, or evidence of completion.
Collapse or expand stages for a clearer focus on your current level.
Monitor your progress through the progress bar, which reflects both the number of tasks completed and your current maturity stage.
