1. Initial Setup
SimpleMES uses Microsoft Entra ID only for SSO. As such, it requires only the minimum permissions for OpenID Connect to function. These permissions are:
openid: Sign users in (required for signin via OpenID Connect)
profile: View users' basic profile (required to retrieve the Entra tenant ID and user’s name for audit trails)
email: View users' email (required to retrieve the user’s email address for audit trail purposes)
As an Entra ID administrator, visit the relevant URL above for your tenant region and follow the prompts to consent to the SimpleMES application for the organisation.
Note: On the first login for the first user of a Microsoft Entra ID tenant, the application may take up to 1 minute to load as it will automatically provision a dedicated storage account for the tenant. After this, the tenant setup is complete.
2. Restricting user access
By default, all users in an organisation have access to SimpleMES. To restrict the users that have access, as an Entra ID administrator:
In Entra ID, go to Applications > Enterprise Applications and select SimpleMES (in some cases, it may show as simplemes).
Select Properties and change Assignment required? to Yes and Save the change.
Select Users and groups, and add the relevant users and groups that should have access to SimpleMES.
Once access has been restricted, any user not granted access will see the following error:
